Robert is as a pharmaceutical/medical device patent attorney, with a JD, MBA, MS (Medical Sciences) and Regulatory Affairs Certification. Robert established his career through progressively elevated levels of responsibility in three Fortune 1000 life sciences tools companies before entering medical device and pharmaceuticals, serving in various roles including legal, business development leadership, general manager, sales, marketing, and commercialization. He has closed over $50M in deals, held responsibility for a $500M product line, prosecuted a number of pharmaceutical patents to issue, and was awarded Roche Diagnostics’ prestigious Entrepreneurial Leader award and Applied Biosystems’ President’s Club award. Robert is also an entrepreneur, having successfully exited two life sciences companies, one he co-founded. His broad experience and multi-faceted education provide an excellent addition to the leadership bench with a holistic approach to creating solutions.
A researcher at heart, Robert P. Mino conducted academic laboratory research for 5 years and contributed on various commercial laboratory projects throughout his more than 20 years in the life sciences related industries. He is very mechanically minded and found chemistry his favorite academic subject during his undergraduate education. Mr. Mino’s undergraduate research focused on genetic engineering of crop plants. In graduate school, Mr. Mino’s thesis research focused on leveraging chemically-modified catalytic RNA to research diabetic retinopathy, the leading cause of non-traumatic blindness in the US. Although a scientist, Mr. Mino was also a business-minded person, and added to his professional tool kit by obtaining an MBA and a JD. He further added to his knowledge base by obtaining a certificate from Harvard Law and several certificates in medical devices and pharmaceuticals from the Regulatory Affairs Professional Society.
Robert P. Mino, PA, opened in Gainesville, Florida, while Mr. Mino focused most of his time on growing a life sciences start-up. In 2012, the practice opened an office in Naples, Florida’s VentureX, where Robert P. Mino, PA, offered services to various entrepreneurs and small businesses. In 2014 the practice expanded to Jupiter, closing its Naples office in 2015. After moving to Jupiter, Mr. Mino began narrowing his practice after taking a position at Somahlution, a Jupiter-area medical device company, to build a quality system. Once the quality system was built at Somahlution, Mr. Mino was hired as Associate General Counsel and IP Counsel for Sancilio Pharmaceuticals Company, Inc., in Riviera Beach, FL, at which time he decreased his outside client load.
At Sancilio, Mr. Mino managed the intellectual property portfolio, having issued over 10 patents during his tenure. He also performs all legal support functions for: HR, including EEOC, litigations, agreements; Sales/Marketing/Business Development: all commercial agreements, all master services agreements, statements of work, negotiations; Intellectual property: trade secrets, trademarks, patents; Clinical/Regulatory: label review, clinical trial contracts (CROs, site contracts, ACTA), FDA 483 responses, state regulatory responses, etc.; Litigation support: supports outside litigation counsel on HR and commercial litigation issues. Mr. Mino also held responsibility at VP, Business Development, at Sancilio.
